Our lady of the Sacred Heart Parish has an active and
enthusiastic group of teenagers who meet weekly throughout the school year. They
call themselves the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Occasionally CYO meets on
another day, but our normal day for CYO is usually from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Red
Gym. on Wednesdays.
Our members attend several area high schools-Orchard Park, St.
Francis, Immaculata, West Seneca West, Mount Mercy, Frontier, Lackawanna, West
Seneca East, Canisius, Bishop Timon, St. Jude... and the newest members are
currently completing 8th grade here at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, and
at other area middle Schools.
What does CYO do? Well, it is run by a group of students who are on our CYO
board, and who represent the interests of the CYO members. We try to emphasize
four areas of young adult life: social, athletic, spiritual and community
service. Recent activities have included moonlight bowling, Mass together, gym
nights caroling at a local nursing home, the giving tree at Christmas, a Buffalo
Bisons game and fireworks ... Some of the activities planned for the summer
include outdoor rock climbing at panama Rocks and hiking through the Chautauqua
Gorge, a day at Darien Lake, a CYO car wash...
CYO is always ready to welcome new members. If YOU are in grades 8-12, come join
us!! It is a great way to meet new people, spend time with friends, do new
things, see new places, and come to know better how to grow up in the Church as
we seek to serve God and neighbor.
